Grab vs Bolt in Thailand
Bolt is usually cheaper for rides, Grab wins on food and coverage. Which to use, and why you want both.
Install both. That is the short answer, and it is what most long-term residents actually do — the apps price the same trip differently, and the gap is big enough to be worth ten seconds of checking.

Use Bolt when
You are in central Bangkok — Sukhumvit, Silom, Sathorn — at a normal hour, and you are going somewhere ordinary. This is where Bolt's price advantage is real and the wait is short.
Use Grab when
You are outside Bangkok, it is late, it is raining, you are going to or from an airport, or you want food. Grab's driver network is the reason it costs more, and the reason it is there when Bolt is not.
For food there is no comparison to make: Bolt does not do food delivery in Thailand. GrabFood does, and it is the largest food-delivery service in the country.
The honest advice
Open both, compare the quoted fare, take the cheaper one. Neither app punishes you for having the other installed, and the same trip can differ by 50–80 baht depending on the hour.
One thing to watch
Bolt's Thailand operating licence expired in May 2026 and it has been running under a short regulatory extension while violation cases are worked through. It is still operating, but this is exactly why having Grab installed as well is not just about price.
